Baku not tolerate turning Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan into someone’s outpost- Ali Hasanov

Baku will not tolerate turning Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan into someone’s outpost and will liberate its lands by all means.

The statement came from chief of the public policy department of the presidential administration of Azerbaijan Ali Hasanov in the interview with Turkish Jumhurriyet.

"We will not give Karabakh to anyone-this is out of the question. If Armenians want to live there, they will have all opportunities for this just as all other citizens of our country", he said.

He noted that it would be naïve to expect an independent policy from Armenia which has become Russia’s outpost in the region.

"But we will not tolerate turning Nagorno Karabakh into someone’s outpost too", he said.

Hasanov noted that the separatist forces have turned Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan into one of the most militarized zones in the world.

"Certainly, the Azerbaijani government is not going to put up with this for too long", he said.

The representative of the Presidential Administration said that the Azerbaijani leadership encourages the OSCE Minsk Group to achieve a peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: "Otherwise, we will liberate our lands by any means".

Unfortunately, he continued, in 20 years the Minsk Group failed to come up with proposals to resolve the conflict.

"Azerbaijan's position is firm - we are against the status quo and speak for the immediate liberation of all occupied territories and return of refugees to their ancestral land", he said.

As for Turkish-Azerbaijani relations, Hasanov noted in particular that the period of the signing of the Zurich protocols between Ankara and Yerevan has become a serious test for them: "We were able to pass this important exam, and our governments have done what the Turkish and Azerbaijani people expected them to do".

"Turkey has finally seen the true face of Armenia. It is impossible to establish relations with the country that turned a million of Azerbaijani Turks into refugees in their own land", he said.

This trial strengthened the ally relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey making them closer to each other: "Following the precepts of national leader Heydar Aliyev, we will further strengthen relations between the two brotherly countries."

According to him, Azerbaijan and Turkey continue the implementation of joint projects, such as the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad.

At present, he added, Azerbaijan has become one of the largest investors in the Turkish economy and the flow of Azerbaijani tourists to Turkey is growing steadily.

"In short, we strengthen our relationship with each passing year and these relations are growing even stronger", Hasanov said.
