Karabakh conflict should be solved peacefully – former Latvian president
Interview with Valdis Zatlers, former Latvian president, member of Latvian Seim, chairman of "Reforms Party of Zatlers".

How do you assess current situation of Azerbaijan-Latvia relations?

Very good. I think cooperation between our countries develop in the correct direction.

Latvia is one of countries who successfully passed the process of USSR's integration to Europe. Today, you country is a full member of European Union and NATO. Azerbaijan follows the same way. What experience can Latvia share with our country? What suggestions can it give in this regard?

We are ready to share our experience with Azerbaijan because there can be both mistakes and successes in this way. Especially, we should learn lessons from our mistakes. But it’s a fact that we are ready to cooperate with Azerbaijan in all spheres including technical and political support.

Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the man problem that hampers Azerbaijan to develop in wide scale. What are your thoughts about the settlement of this problem?

I think that this problem should be solved peacefully. The justice should be reached on the basis of Madrid principles and negotiation process of OSCE Minsk group. In other words, the work should run in such manner that it would be possible to settle this problem in coming future. But for now, unfortunately we observe this process running with non-stable successes.
