Google faces $25.4 bln compensation claims from UK, Dutch courts

The United Kingdom and the Netherlands are demanding 25 billion euros in compensation from the technology company Google for its digital advertising activities in their countries, SIA cites foreign media.

Demien Geradin, the founder of the Brussels-based Geradin law firm, said on his social media account that various law firms in the UK and the Netherlands will file a joint compensation claim against the US-based Google firm: "Due to its anti-competitive behavior in the advertising technology sector. "We want compensation from Google up to 25 billion euros. Google must pay fair compensation for the damage caused to various broadcast companies, such as local and national media. Broadcasters will demand from Google the advertising revenue they should have received in recent years."

In 2019, the European Union fined Google 1.49 billion euros for abusing market dominance in the AdSense advertising service. In addition, the EU launched a competition investigation into Google's digital advertising activities last year. The ongoing investigation is looking into whether Google uses its services in ad technology and whether it harms rival ad service providers.
