WHO official: Immunization program expected to save 32 million lives by 2030
It is projected that the immunization program against 10 pathogens in 98 countries for 2020-2030 will save 32 million lives, Shahnaz Hasanova, a consultant of the World Health Organization (WHO) Azerbaijan office, stated during a meeting with media representatives, Report informs.
She noted that 88% of them will be children under 5 years of age:
"Globally, immunization prevents up to 5 million deaths each year from diseases such as diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, influenza, and measles. Vaccines are very safe and effective, so several vaccines can be administered on the same day."
Hasanova added that there are vaccines against more than 30 dangerous diseases:
"There are also vaccines against two types of cancer. These are vaccines related to liver cancer and cervical cancer."
