US President Donald Trump has shared an article by Joshua Klein, published on the Breitbart website, which highlights statements by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev regarding Azerbaijan-US relations, SİA informs.
Klein attended the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, where he asked President Ilham Aliyev about the status of Azerbaijan-US relations as well as the ongoing peace process between Baku and Yerevan.
The article quotes President Aliyev, who emphasized the White House administration's special contribution to resolving the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Additionally, the article includes a comparative analysis made by the Azerbaijani president regarding previous White House administrations. He noted that rather than resolving the situation in the South Caucasus, past US presidents sought merely to freeze the conflict.
"The Azerbaijani president argued that previous administrations spent nearly three decades pursuing policies that effectively froze the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict rather than resolving it, while Trump approached the conflict from an entirely different perspective," Klein noted.
Describing Trump as "a person who loves peace" who "sees peace as an opportunity," Aliyev said Trump's role proved decisive as Azerbaijan and Armenia reached the final stage of negotiations on a peace agreement. According to Aliyev, Trump and his team understood Azerbaijan's concerns, worked to persuade Armenia that peace served both countries' interests and ultimately "created such a framework that peace became possible."
Reflecting on the strengthened relationship, he said, "This is amazing. This is unbelievable. This is something which we could only dream about," saying the expanded partnership had opened a new chapter in cooperation between the United States and Azerbaijan.
In particular, the parties signed a Charter on Strategic Partnership, which opened a new chapter in cooperation between the two countries.
Klein also quoted President Ilham Aliyev as saying that relations between Azerbaijan and the United States are now at an unprecedented level.
