Ilham Aliyev: No countries worldwide close to each other as Azerbaijan and Türkiye

There are no two countries in the world as close to each other as Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the opening ceremony of the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, entitled "The Mission of the Media in Promoting Peace: Restoring Truth and Rebuilding Trust," SİA informs.

The head of state noted that the peoples of Türkiye and Azerbaijan are two nations closer to each other than any other countries worldwide:

"Look at the level of cooperation – political, economic, energy, connectivity, and people-to-people relations. We do not know any other two states in the world that are so close to each other, that support each other so much, that have such a friendship with each other. This is a great wealth of our peoples, and together we are stronger. This is also an important criterion for regional stability, a criterion that serves cooperation."

Aliyev also emphasized that they are working on connectivity: "This is also an important criterion for security. Here, in Shusha, five years ago, the President of Türkiye and I signed the Shusha Declaration. Thus, we elevated our relations to the level of alliance. We are not only brothers and friends, but we are also allies. If something bad happens to either of us, we will all rise to defend our brother with our military potential. This is a rare case where ethnic roots, common culture, and shared history create a platform for countries to be so close politically. I am sure there are many cases where parties with the same language and same roots have not been able to create such a platform. Sometimes people who speak almost the same language and share the same religion fight against each other. Therefore, the example of Türkiye and Azerbaijan is a model and should be studied by neighbors. The relations between Türkiye and Azerbaijan are inspirational."
