Saadat Yusifova: Dev’t of Islamic approach to cultural heritage protection is important
It is important to develop an Islamic approach to the protection of cultural heritage based on legislative frameworks and rich traditions, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Culture Saadat Yusifova said, Report informs.
Yusifova shares this insight at the 1st Islamic World Cultural Forum on "Protection and Revival of Cultural Heritage in the Post-Conflict Period" held in Shusha on April 17.
The deputy minister stated that the implementation of conventions such as the 1954 Hague Convention should be strengthened:
"In addition, it is impossible to achieve the protection of cultural heritage without the active participation of local communities. Their knowledge, customs, and experiences are essential for effective protection and revitalization."
She also discussed the restoration and reconstruction work being carried out in Karabakh: "Over the past five years, Azerbaijan has made significant efforts in the post-conflict period. We are committed to the restoration and preservation of cultural heritage in the liberated territories. We are working on documenting the damage in these areas, restoring historical monuments, and revitalizing cultural life."
Yusifova praised the tireless activities of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in protecting and promoting the cultural heritage of the Islamic world in this context.
"We are committed to continuing our cooperation and joint efforts in this important work. I hope that this forum will ensure the protection and revitalization of cultural heritage in post-conflict regions and pave the way for concrete activities and sustainable partnerships to build a world where Islamic culture can flourish for centuries to come," she said.
