"On July 22, Azerbaijan's national press celebrates its 140th anniversary. However developmential period of Azerbaijani press has started since 1993. With gaining independence, free press also has been formed in Azerbaijan," the head of Ses Media Group, doctor of philosophy Behruz Guliyev told it SIA commenting on President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s order on marking 140th anniversary of Azerbaijani national press.
According to Behruz Guliyev, the formation of civil society in Azerbaijan was made a start in 1993 by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Doubtlessly, press is one of significant institutions on forming civil society. Therefore, Heydar Aliyev has left a censorship on press in 1998 and a new conception of Azerbaijani press embarked on. Journalists have been taken care of by Azerbaijani government and specially by the head of state.
"President Ilham Aliyev’s order on marking 140th anniversary of Azerbaijan's national press has once more proved the fact that our government always takes care of press and journalists. "Journalism is a very hard and responsible profession. Persons working on this field are very courageous," the National Leader Heydar Aliyev always highlighted this point in his speeches. On the 138 th anniversary of the national press President Ilham Aliyev ordered to build an apartment building for journalists in Baku and journalists presented with apartments. This step shows the Azerbaijani government’s care and attention to journalists’ social problems. The government cares for each of its citizens, as well journalists," aded Mr Guliyev.
