Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov held telephone talks with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev reported.
"Mammadyarov said that the position U.S. is not clear for Azerbaijan and exactly Azerbaijani people was subjected to ethnic cleaning" - Abdullayev said.
According to him, Mamedyarov informed that the issue of Azerbaijani serviceman Ramil Safarov is the result of Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani lands.
Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov, who was convicted in Hungary, returned on Friday to Azerbaijan. The same day, under an order of the head of state, he was pardoned.
Earlier on Saturday U.S. President Barack Obama expressed "deep concern" about the fact of pardon of Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov.
