Baku State University has presented an honorary doctorate to the chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko.
She was awarded the degree for her active participation in the development of bilateral relations, especially in science and education.
Baku State University Rector Abel Maharramov, who presented the honorary doctorate, said that the university had links with many universities in Russia.
State University has 17 faculties, 124 departments and 24 laboratories, the rector said. Some 1,500 of its 20,000 students come from 16 different countries.
Matviyenko noted the many links between Azerbaijan and Russia and said that relations were developing well.
She thanked Azerbaijan for the attention paid to the Russian language.
