The Parliamentary Assembly of
the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg has elected Estonian MP
Andres Herkel chairman of its Monitoring Committee.
Herkel won the position in a January 23 vote, beating competitor Pedro Agramunt Font de Mora, a Spanish representative of the European People’s Party, 63 to 45.
Herkel was PACE’s co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan. Former chairman of Monitoring Committee was Swiss MP Dick Marty.
