AZAL has introduced a fuel surcharge in air flights in all directions. The statement came from sources in one of the tourism companies of Azerbaijan. AZAL has confirmed the report, according to SIA.
"Due to the rise in fuel prices, considering the decision of the Tariff (price) council of Azerbaijan of December 3, 2013, AZAL introduced the fuel surcharge depending on the flight distance.
Fuel surcharge for economy class is 12 euros, business class - 18 euros, spokesman for AZAL Maharram Safarli said.
He also noted that the rates for flights remained unchanged.
"Fuel Surcharge is used by many airlines . It is a worldwide practice", the spokesman said.
However, he did not deny the fact that the fuel surcharge will be reflected on airfare of AZAL, and prices will increase in line with fuel taxes.
In turn, the head of Azerbaijan Tourism Association (AzTA) Nahid Bagirov said that the fuel surcharge in the amount of 12 and 18 euros is valid only in respect of flights lasting up to 2 hours.
"If the flight lasts for more than two hours , the fuel surcharge for economy class is 18 euros , business class is 27 euros", Bagirov said .
The head of AzTA noted that AZAL carries flights lasting up to 2 hours only in Tbilisi (Georgia) and Tehran ( Iran)
