SOCAR President meets Afghanistan delegation

SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev met with the delegation led by Afghanistan's Minister of Mines and Petroleum Wahidullah Shahrani.

"Azerbaijan is an ancient oil land. The first oil well through the industrial method was drilled in Baku. Our oil workers has made significant contributions to the history of the world industry", noted Abdullayev.

He spoke about the achievements in regional and global projects implemented within the new oil strategy, the role of SOCAR in these achievements, Company's activities, assets within the country and abroad.

Afghanistan's Minister of Mines and Petroleum said he was proud of Azerbaijan’s rapid development during the recent years. He touched upon the importance of the role of oil-gas industry in this development: "SOCAR is successfully operating the fastest growing company all over the world and it is recognized as a reliable partner".

The minister said that for several years now, Afghanistan, with its vast oil and gas potential, has started operating within the framework of cooperation with international companies. And the country wants to take advantage of Azerbaijan’s experience in this sphere: "We are interested in cooperation with SOCAR in development of Afghanistan's underground wealth.

"Throughout the centuries, Azerbaijan was considered oil academy of the world. We have tradition to prepare oil specialist for Afghanistan. Last year, we opened Baku Higher Oil School, which closely collaborates with the world’s leading universities. As a continuation of this tradition, we will create favorable conditions for afghan youth to study at this school at the level of international standards", Abdullayev added.

Moreover, SOCAR President noted that it was possible to take real steps in direction of organization of experience exchange for oil-gas specialists of friendly country in Azerbaijan.
