German President supports two-state solution for permanent peace in Middle East

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has expressed mutual agreement with Turkey on the possibility of achieving lasting peace in the Middle East through a two-state solution.

"Germany and Turkey have differing perspectives on the conflicts in the Middle East. However, we agree that lasting peace in the region can be achieved through a two-state solution," Steinmeier said in statement to Turkish media, SIA reports

"Discussions in Turkey were constructive, and every moment of this visit was valuable. I came to Turkey on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the commencement of our diplomatic relations," the head of the state added.

Both Germany and Turkey are NATO allies and members of the G-20, reinforcing the importance of their relationship.

"We need each other," Steinmeier emphasized, underlining the interdependence between the two nations.

Discussions also included the headquarters of the DHL logistics company at Istanbul Airport, with Steinmeier and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan deliberating on its significance as a model for rapid air freight transportation.

Furthermore, the establishment of the first Digital Conversion Office within the Research and Development Center in Istanbul among European countries was noted as a positive development.

Efforts to increase the number of German consulate staff in Turkey and expedite visa processes and meetings were also discussed.

Steinmeier expressed anticipation for Turkey's participation in EURO 2024, to be held in Germany, and extended his support for Turkish national athletes.
