"Africa's development partners" will provide financial assistance in the amount of $30 billion to ensure the continent's food security, according to the decision taken at the "Feed Africa Summit" organized by the African Development Bank in Dakar, SIA reports.
The financial support will be focused on the development of the continent's food sector over the next five years. $10 billion of those funds have been taken over by the African Development Bank.
The development of the agricultural and food sector in the continent was the topic of discussion at the summit attended by leaders of African countries, investors and representatives of partner countries.
According to the African Development Bank, 249 million of the 828 million people suffering from hunger worldwide live in Africa. This means that one in five people living on the world's largest continent suffers from hunger.
