Dell speeds up investment as strategies resonate with customers
Dell has accelerated investments in research and development, the channel, the customer experience and sales to deliver what it considers is industry-leading growth and innovation.
The company said that with the ability to pursue a long-term strategy with 100 per cent customer focus, it increasingly stood alone as an integrated provider of end-to-end solutions that mattered most to customers.
Michael Dell, the company's chairman and chief executive officer, said that Dell's strategy was resonating with customers worldwide as they looked for a stable, reliable end-to-end solutions provider to meet their business and IT needs.
The company said that customers using Dell's solution centres ranged from large enterprises and public sector organisations to small and mid-market companies and its channel partners.
It said that the centres played a critical role in enabling customers and partners to explore, develop and test the solutions and technologies that best met their unique IT requirements, helping them to drive improved business outcomes and competitive advantage.
Dell said that a key capability that set it apart was its dedicated network, which allowed any centre in the world to connect with the others, giving customers and partners the true power of a global network to test their applications worldwide by leveraging Dell's networked infrastructure.
Dell Research has developed a solution called High Velocity Cloud that can, according to Dell's analysis, support all the mobile device traffic in a medium-size city with only one quarter of a rack of Dell server and networking equipment.
The company said the High Velocity Cloud optimised standard servers for high-performance packet processing, and enabled a 20-time improvement in the capability of virtualised standard servers to handle network-intensive functions.
Combined with partners, the company said that Dell Research recently set a performance record by demonstrating that, with the cloud, a virtualised standard Dell R920 server with standard network adapters and no special hardware could be the infrastructure for a system capable of supporting 214 Gb/s of bandwidth while still leaving 90 per cent of the server CPU free for running network-intensive workloads.
It said the magnitude of disruption and innovation the cloud brought was exponential. For example, a service that once might have taken months to roll out could now be rolled out in minutes.
Dell said that this opened tremendous opportunities and would push organisations to completely rethink business models, resource allocations and product lines.
