President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev, who is on a visit to Baku, visited Milli Majlis, the parliament of Azerbaijan, on Friday.
President Atambayev was welcomed by Speaker Ogtay Asadov and then addressed the Azerbaijani parliament.
Speaking in Turkic language, Atambayev said "We are Turks, our fathers and grandfathers were Turks".
Atambayev said Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan passed through hardships. "Our people could save our history and traditions. We were in the track of our fathers".
"Though Kyrgyzstan declared its independence 20 years ago, we actually depend on all powerful countries both from technical and physical viewpoint", Atambayev said .
As an example, Atambayev said that they hardly import fuel from other countries every year: "They try to bring us to our knees, but we weren’t and will never be their slaves. It is better to die bravely than to live on knees. There is a memory of our fathers and brothers who died for Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan’s independence, God help us. I wish happiness and welfare to fraternal Azerbaijani people".
He cited Heydar Aliyev’s words about the epos of Dede Qorqud and Manas.
President Atambayev spoke in Russian, Turkish and Kyrgyz languages during his speech.
