Novruz Mammadov: "Human Rights Watch" report on Azerbaijan is notable for its biasness and insidiousness
Exclusive interview of Mr. Novruz Mammadov, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration and the Head of Foreign Relations Department with the "Newtimes.az":
– Mr. Mammadov, "Human Rights Watch'' organization published a new report that contains number of bias aspects with respect to Azerbaijan. Please share your views on the issue with our readers.
– As usual, a 100-page report on Azerbaijan produced by non-governmental organization "Human Rights Watch'' is notable for its biasness and insidiousness. A report, disseminated by the organization only a month ahead of presidential elections in Azerbaijan, testifies to some shady aspects. It was not accidental that some leading media outlets tried to provide a spotlight for it. The motives here are clear.
It is a common knowledge that international NGOs are never independent and are subservient to quarters at whose behest they perform. International community is also well aware of those organizations whose names are implicated in financial scams and fomenting unrest in some countries. If analyzed on the backdrop of processes developing on the international arena, nature and motives of recent endeavors by certain quarters of some countries defies logic.
Should "Human Rights Watch'' bothered to produce just and fair piece of material with regards to Azerbaijani refugees and violation of their rights, the organization might have appeared as somewhat impartial. But alas, it was never the case.
In a nutshell, those kinds of organizations have always worked upon instructions and performed to meet certain objectives designated for them, meaning that they are politically motivated. Something not denied in private conversations. And today, on the elections eve, they neglect the plight of 1 million refugees and internally displaced persons and try not be left behind other NGO’s in making themselves heard.
Regrettably, such NGO’s, pretending to be figures and not the pawns in geopolitical games, still fail to understand that occasional and by-turns expressed position of theirs will gradually become a boomerang to endanger their very existence. And it is still not too late to realize that.
Some international institutions, including obstructive elements within them, are simply unable to digest the day by day development of the state of Azerbaijan, increasing prosperity of its citizens, stability prevailing in the country and independent policy conducted by its leadership in line with nation’s interests.
Azerbaijan has always demonstrated sensitivity on the issues of democracy, human rights and development of civil society. Therefore, that report fails to reflect the realities of Azerbaijan.
