Floods in South Africa has taken 341 lives

The death toll from floods in the eastern South African province of KwaZulu-Natal has risen to 253.

According to the information obtained by SIA, heavy rains in and around Durban, one of the largest cities in the country, caused floods.

Sipho Hlomuka, a member of the KwaZulu-Natal State Council for Cooperative Management and Traditional Affairs, said 253 people had been killed so far in the flood disaster, which affected Durban in particular.

According to the South African Metallurgical Service, in the last 24 hours, the amount of precipitation per square meter around the city of Durban has reached 300 millimeters.

Durban Mayor Mholisi Kaunda said rescue teams and firefighters were working tirelessly to rescue people trapped in the area.

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government has called on the people to seek refuge in high places.

Meanwhile, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, along with senior government officials, traveled to the disaster-stricken areas on April 13 and said the government would help flood-affected families.
