UN: Transition to paperless government in Azerbaijan will reduce carbon emissions
Digital transformation not only simplifies procedures but also paves the way for more efficient delivery of government services in the future, Vladanka Andreeva, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, told an event themed "Paperless Government: Environmental Impact of Digitalization and Innovation" held in Baku as part of the "29 Climate Conversations: The Road to COP29," Report informs.
Andreeva emphasized the significance of transitioning to a paperless government.
"The use of paper is quite enough. It leads to deforestation and greenhouse emissions," Andreeva stated. "Imagine how many trees will be preserved by moving to a paperless government in Azerbaijan today. Digital solutions will have a profound impact on the environment. The shift to a paperless government goes beyond saving trees. It conserves various resources, ultimately leading to a reduction in carbon emissions."
"We are not only reducing waste but also shaping a culture of responsible consumption," Andreeva added.
With only 67 days left until COP29, the UN official emphasized that the world's attention will be focused on Baku. "The most crucial global initiatives will be discussed at COP29. By hosting this prestigious event, Azerbaijan undoubtedly intends to leave its mark in the context of climate action measures," she said.
