Iran calls on the international community to ensure fair and non-discriminatory access to climate financing, Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Shina Ansari, said at the COP29 leaders summit in Baku, SİA informs.
Ansari expressed gratitude to the government and people of Azerbaijan for organizing the 29th COP session.
"This is an opportunity for inclusive work based on the principle of common but differentiated responsibility to address global problems caused by climate change. It is necessary to ensure equal access to technologies, knowledge, investments, and nuclear energy to increase the share of clean, renewable energy, which will allow us to achieve our goals," she said.
She added that Iran is taking numerous measures to address climate change, including implementing several initiatives, among which is the development of a common strategy for climate change management.
"In addition, a national action plan has been developed in this area, implementing projects such as converting power plants to other fuel sources, reducing emissions in the oil and gas industry, and expanding the use of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind," Ansari noted.
The politician emphasized that Tehran advocates for fair and non-discriminatory access to climate financing and called on the international community to make efforts toward this.
"Let's not forget that the current climate situation in the world is the result of industrial policies of several developed countries. Developing countries should not be deprived of their right to development because of what others have done. We cannot ignore double standards. All states must unite to achieve our common goals," she said.
