ICAO representative arrives in Aktau to investigate AZAL plane crash

Thormodur Thormodsson, the head of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Section of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), arrived in Aktau today to investigate the crash of an Azerbaijani AZAL airline aircraft, Report informs, citing Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport.

"On December 29, 2024, an accredited observer - the head of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Section, Thormodur Thormodsson - arrived in Aktau city on behalf of the ICAO Secretary General," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry notes that ICAO highly appreciated the actions of Kazakhstan's aviation authorities, their transparency in conducting the investigation, and the involvement of interested states.

"Thus, all 17 international experts are now in Aktau," the ministry added.
