Today marks national day of mourning in Azerbaijan

Today is the day of mourning over the tragic crash of the Embraer 190 passenger aircraft, operating the Baku-Grozny flight on December 25, which resulted in numerous casualties.

According to SİA, President Ilham Aliyev has signed an order in this regard.

On December 25, an Embraer aircraft operating Azerbaijan Airlines' Baku-Grozny flight crashed near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan.

Among the 67 people on board, 42 were citizens of Azerbaijan, 16 of Russia, 6 of Kazakhstan, and 3 of Kyrgyzstan.

Under President Ilham Aliyev's instruction, a state commission headed by Prime Minister Ali Asadov has been established to investigate the causes of the plane crash.

An Azerbaijani delegation, including the minister of digital development and transport, minister of emergencies, deputy prosecutor general, and other officials, departed for Aktau to investigate the causes of the plane crash on site.

President Ilham Aliyev, en route to the Russian Federation to attend the informal summit of the heads of state of CIS member countries in St. Petersburg today, was informed about the plane crash while in the Russian airspace and promptly instructed the aircraft to return.

As soon as the plane landed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, President Ilham Aliyev convened a meeting to address the incident.
