State Service: Number of cyber attacks against government institutions and citizens increased dramatically
“Recently, there has been a sharp increase in the number of cyber attacks directed at both government institutions and citizens. Criminals are using increasingly complex methods to gain unauthorized access to personal information, financial resources, and government information systems,” Azerbaijan's State Service of Special Communication and Information Security to SİA.
According to information, a large number of confidential information related to a number of banks and enterprises - documents, contracts, financial and property files, CVs, reports, etc. - are published on free platforms such as "any.run", "virustotal", which are currently the most used in Azerbaijan.
“State Service of Special Communication and Information Security carries out 24/7 monitoring of the electronic information resources of state institutions located in the information and resource center, and also conducts audits of other electronic information resources and systems belonging to state institutions. Failure to provide timely elimination of gaps discovered during audits makes the occurrence of cyber incidents and theft of personal data inevitable.
We recommend government agencies to promptly eliminate gaps sent to them in audit reports, strictly adhere to security recommendations, and make it a way of life for citizens to follow the rules of cyber hygiene.
For your information, we inform you that in January-August of this year, 675 cyberattack indicators (IOCs) against state institutions were detected by the State Service of Special Communication and Information Security, 560.7 million malicious links on the "AzStateNet" network, 3 million 43 thousand 900 electronic documents with malicious content were detected and blocked through the central antivirus system installed on end users and 170 thousand 768 documents with malicious content were detected and blocked through "Sandbox" protection system.”
