“In the last few months, the capital Baku has hosted international conferences on the freedom struggles of peoples and countries suffering from colonialism. The Baku Initiative Group supports the liberation struggle of oppressed peoples suffering from colonialism,” Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group, said as he addressed the international conference on “Illegal French Occupation of Mayotte Island of Comoros Union” underway in Baku.
Abbas Abbasov highlighted the history of the Comoros and Mayotte islands, which are suffering from French colonialism and struggling for freedom.
He noted that the Baku Initiative Group was created by the participants of the conference “Towards the Complete Elimination of Colonialism”, held on July 6, 2023 in Baku as part of the ministerial meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement chaired by Azerbaijan. Over the past year, 16 international events have been held under the auspices of the Baku Initiative Group.
The executive director expressed confidence that the current conference would also support the freedom struggle of the island of Mayotte.
