Azerbaijani candidate elected to UN Committee on Human Rights of Migrants

The 12th meeting of the States Parties to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families has been held at the UN headquarters, Report informs.

Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Tofig Musayev was elected Chairman of the meeting of the States Parties to the Convention. The meeting included elections of new members of the UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families for 2026-2029.

Voting was held for seven vacant seats that will become vacant on the Committee from December 31, 2025. In addition to Azerbaijan, candidates from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ecuador, Benin, Niger, Madagascar and Senegal took part in the elections. Following the voting, the candidate from Azerbaijan Azad Taghizada received 55 votes out of 57 and was re-elected to the Committee with the highest result for the term 2026-2029.

The Committee consists of 14 independent experts, monitors the implementation of the provisions of the Convention, and its members are elected by the States Parties.
