The Fatwa of the Caucasus Muslims Office states that, based on official calculations by the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory, the 1446th year of the Hijri lunar calendar is ending, and the beginning of the new 1447th year — Muharram 1 — corresponds to June 26, 2025, in the Gregorian calendar.
The Council of Qadis reminds the believers that during the 60 days of mourning ceremonies held in the months of Muharram and Safar, especially during Tasua and Ashura commemorations, actions such as inflicting injuries with various instruments, drawing blood, beating the chest while bare to the waist, etc., are unacceptable according to our religion.
The Council of Qadis of the Caucasus Muslims Office also notes that, in accordance with the provisions of the “Law on Freedom of Religious Beliefs,” religious ceremonies should be held in mosques, pilgrimage sites, and their related territories.
According to Azerbaijani law, during mourning ceremonies, it is prohibited to shout slogans that undermine national and spiritual values and statehood traditions, to use attributes inconsistent with state symbols, to organize street marches, or to disturb public order.
