Remains of two Azerbaijani soldiers who went missing in 2022 were found in Lachin

As a result of the search and investigation conducted by relevant state bodies represented in the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Missing, and Captured Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on July 3, 2024, remains believed to belong to two Azerbaijani Army soldiers were discovered and recovered in the Yüzbulaq summer pasture area in the Istisu settlement of Kalbajar district, says joint statement by the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Missing, and Captured Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, SİA reports.

As a result of examinations conducted by the Forensic Medical Examination and Pathological Anatomy Union of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Genetic Research Center of the Military Medicine Main Department of the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, it has been determined that the remains are those of Azerbaijani Army soldiers who went missing due to sudden weather changes and a snowstorm in a high mountainous and difficult terrain area in Lachin district on March 3, 2022. The remains have been identified as belonging to Farid Ejder oglu Mammadyov, born on May 23, 2003, and Firdovsi Mais oglu Abdullayev, born on February 9, 2003.

Complex investigative measures, forensic medical, and criminological studies have determined that the soldiers went missing on March 3, 2022, due to sudden changes in weather and a snowstorm in a high mountainous and difficult terrain area in the Lachin district. They lost their way and died from hypothermia after being exposed to cold temperatures for an extended period.

The discovery of the soldiers' remains was announced to the families of the missing soldiers during a meeting held on August 5, 2024, at the State Commission.

Currently, necessary arrangements are being made in collaboration with relevant state bodies for the burial of soldiers Farid Mammadyov and Firdovsi Abdullayev. Further information regarding the time and place of the funeral ceremonies will be provided to the public.
