On December 25, the Embraer 190 aircraft with the flight number J2-8243, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, made an emergency landing and was redirected towards Aktau city, where it crashed near Aktau, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan said in a statement, SİA reports.
According to the Ministry, the causes of the crash are under investigation.
t was noted that there were 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board, totaling 67 people.
According to preliminary information, 32 individuals have been confirmed to have survived, with some in critical condition.
"In accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, a state commission has been established under the leadership of Prime Minister Ali Asadov to investigate the causes of the plane crash. Additionally, as per the President's instructions, a team led by the Minister of Emergency Situations and the Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan has been dispatched to Kazakhstan in connection with the tragic accident.
From the moment of the crash, the Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Aktau has been active at the scene. In coordination with the Kazakh side, emergency rescue teams are taking urgent operational measures.
