UN Members Warn of Rising Violence in Myanmar Amid Humanitarian Crisis

United Nations (UN) members have issued a warning regarding the escalating violence in Myanmar.

Robert Wood, Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN, spoke on behalf of the members, SIA reports with reference to foreign media.

Wood highlighted that the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance in Myanmar has surged from 1 million to 18.6 million since the coup in 2021, expressing deep concern over the rising violence. He pointed out reports of violations of international human rights laws, indicating that the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar is deepening.

Furthermore, Wood warned that the Myanmar regime is using displaced individuals, including Rohingya Muslims, as human shields amid the increasing violence in the region.
