Japanese diplomat at UN omits US speaking about bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine Japan's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Mitsuko Shino, mentioned the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but preferred not to say that the United States was behind it.

"We would like to reiterate Japan's clear position regarding Russia's repeated nuclear rhetoric. As the only country that has ever been subjected to atomic bombing during the war, Japan will never accept Russia's nuclear threats, let alone any use of nuclear weapons. The disasters of Hiroshima and Nagasaki must never be repeated," she said.

Japanese representatives at the UN often talk about the disaster, but prefer not to say anything about US responsibility. A similar situation arose in the UN Security Council in mid-March. Then Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, pointed out that Tokyo was spreading disinformation about some threatening nuclear rhetoric from Moscow, but did not find the courage to directly declare Washington’s responsibility for the deaths of civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
