UN Secretary-General António Guterres attends EU summit in Brussels

According to information obtained by SIA from foreign sources, the Council of the European Union issued a statement regarding the European Union Leaders' Summit attended by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

According to the statement, the UN and the European Union emphasized the importance of cooperation to solve current global challenges.

The parties discussed opportunities for closer cooperation for a peaceful, just and sustainable world.

The parties stressed that the EU countries are committed to the UN Charter and principles while Russia's war against Ukraine continues and called on Russia to immediately and unconditionally withdraw from Ukraine.

The parties discussing the "Grain Corridor" issue emphasized that it is effective in this regard, along with the EU's own initiatives related to food security.

Discussing the urgency of accelerating carbon emissions reductions and promoting nature-based solutions in the face of the crisis of climate change, air pollution and biodiversity loss, the parties called on all stakeholders, especially major economies, to review and strengthen their identified contributions for COP28.
