Türkiye's role in zero waste emphasized by ambassadors

The ambassadors of the European Union (EU), France, Ireland and Israel in Türkiye emphasized the importance of Türkiye's zero waste policy for both Türkiye and the world, SIA refers to Turkish media.

On January 17, the head of the EU representation in Türkiye, Ambassador Meyer-Landrut, participated in the "Zero Waste for the World in Our Common Home" program organized for ambassadors and their spouses at the Presidential Residence in Ankara.

Ambassador Landrut expressed that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's wife Emina Erdogan's "Zero waste policy is important for both Türkiye and rest of the world," and that they are happy to be a part of the waste reduction project.

“Today, if we do not take effective and concrete steps at the global level, unfortunately, there will be no living space on which we can establish peace and justice,” Emina Erdoğan said, addressing the “Zero Waste for the World, Our Common Home” event.

The climate crisis poses a “life-and-death” threat not only for nature but for each person, Erdoğan said.

The Zero-Waste Project, carried out by Emine Erdoğan in a bid to reduce the volume of non-recyclable waste, has completed its five years.

Erdoğan reminded that the United Nations General Assembly on Dec. 14 unanimously accepted a resolution regarding the project presented by Türkiye, declaring March 30 as International Zero-Waste Day.

Accordingly, the U.N. will set up an advisory board committee comprising experts selected based on their knowledge, experience and expertise to introduce zero waste initiatives on a national scale and worldwide.

In the age of uncertainty that the world is going through, the U.N. has more role to play than ever before, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said at the event.

The Irish ambassador in Ankara, Sonya MikeGuinness, also said that the mentioned project is very accurate and that Emina Erdoğan connects every person, house and government's zero waste policy.

Mike Guinness said, "Türkiye has an important role in this field in the region. All the work done affects the future of children."

Israel's Ambassador to Ankara, Irit Lillian, also pointed out that the waste problem is one of the most serious problems in the world, and noted that this program is an excellent initiative to unite all forces and achieve the goal of zero waste.

Pointing out that the main goal is to use common power and make the world better and cleaner, Lillian said, "We are always ready for cooperation. Türkiye is strong in not allowing waste."
