IDEA Public Union Organizes Traditional Cleanup Campaign Along Kura River
A traditional cleanup campaign has been organized by the IDEA Public Union along the banks of the Kura River, in partnership with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
The event took place in the section of the river that runs through the Neftchala district, SIA reports.
According to a report from IDEA, about 30 volunteers, along with local youth and community representatives, participated in the campaign. Equipped with sanitary supplies and special boats, the volunteers cleaned the Kura River and its banks of various household waste and synthetic fishing nets, which lead to massive fish deaths and other prohibited artisanal fishing tools that hinder fish development in their natural habitat. Nearly half a ton of waste was collected and handed over to the waste disposal site in Neftchala district. During the event, local residents were also informed about the pollution of the river by waste and the harmful effects of illegal fishing gear on the environment and fauna of the Caspian Sea and the Kura River.
The main goal of the campaign is to clean the Caspian Sea and other water bodies of tools that obstruct the natural development of fish, as well as to prevent pollution and littering of the Kura River banks. This initiative aims to promote cleanliness in coastal areas and raise public awareness about the damage caused by household waste thrown into the Kura River and, consequently, its impact on the fauna of the Caspian Sea.
Research shows that the increasing volume of household and industrial waste dumped into rivers is one of the reasons for the sharp decline in fish populations in the Kura River and the Caspian Sea. Taking this into account, the IDEA Public Union regularly organizes such cleanup campaigns along the Caspian coast, including the banks of the Kura River, to protect, conserve, and enhance the bio-resources of the Caspian Sea.
Regular cleanup campaigns along the Kura River are vital for mobilizing the community to protect rivers, which play a special role in maintaining the natural balance and human life, restoring the ecological balance of the area, contributing to the improvement of the environment, and promoting ecological culture and care for nature among people.
The IDEA Public Union expresses its gratitude to all nature lovers who joined the campaign for their activism and contributions to a healthy environment. The Union calls on everyone to be sensitive to initiatives for nature protection and to ensure the cleanliness of our shores.
