A court ruling has overturned the acquittal of Tərlan Qasımov, who was previously accused of committing fraud amounting to 124,000 manats. The decision was made by the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, SIA reports.
Qasımov faced charges under Article 178.3.2 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to fraud committed in significant amounts. He had been sentenced to six years in prison by the Baku Serious Crimes Court.
Following his acquittal by the Baku Appeal Court, Qasımov was released. However, the prosecutor filed a cassation protest against the acquittal decision to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court then sent the case back to the Baku Appeal Court for a reevaluation.
Upon review, the Baku Appeal Court revoked the acquittal and reinstated the six-year prison sentence. Tərlan Qasımov was taken into custody immediately following the court's decision.
