EU continues to seek a peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

The European Union continues to seek a peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by supporting the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group.

The statement came from head of the EU Foreign Service (EEAS) Maya Kochiyanchich.

According to Kochiyanchich, the EU sees its role in settling the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh as a supplement to the OSCE Minsk Group.

"EU supports activities aimed at building confidence in order to facilitate settlement of the conflict", she said, noting the implementation of the EU project on confidence-building measures between the societies of the conflicting parties.

Kochiyanchich reaffirmed the unacceptability of the current status quo in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and pledged EU's commitment to peace in the South Caucasus region.

"The appointment of EU Special Representative for South Caucasus and crisis in Georgia Philippe Lefort, as well as the recent [first] visit of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on the South Caucasus reaffirms the EU's commitment to its obligations in this region", she said.
