Sales on eBay have dwindled sharply since the beginning of the year. Its sales have continued to decrease - only for February the drop was 26.2%.
"Auctions are not convenient, and they’re really only good for a niche part in today’s e-commerce world. This trend has been going on for quite a while where auctions are waning with consumers. As e-commerce has gone mainstream, people are less into it for treasure hunting," said Scot Wingo, CEO of ChannelAdvisor.
The latest trends show that online shoppers are moving away from this type of transactions, as proposed by eBay. Instead, users prefer sites with direct sales, according to experts.
According to ChannelAdvisor, shoppers are moving to online sites like Amazon, which offer a full range of services, including free delivery within two days.
Online auction and shopping website eBay was founded by computer programmer Pierre Omidyar in 1995. Any registered user can make purchase and sell goods on eBay. Companies can also distribute their products on the site. Products offered for sale by them can be found among usual customer lots. Previously, eBay launched a separate section brands.ebay.com, designed for direct sales of goods by major brands and companies. Section is still active, but most of its categories are empty.
