New gas pipeline to be constructed in Azerbaijan

In order to expand the South Caucasus Pipeline, it is considered to construct new gas pipe in Azerbaijan within the framework of Shah Deniz-2 project, this was stated during public hearings on the assessment of impact of the South Caucasus gas pipeline expansion project upon the environment and social services.

Beginning of new pipeline will start near Hajigabul and stretch 386 km up to border with Georgia. Thereafter, the pipeline will go more 56 km in the territory of Georgia. Starting from this point, the new pipeline will join the existing pipeline.

The event also underlined that preliminary construction work will begin in Azerbaijan mid-2014, the main - in early 2015 and be completed in late 2017. The pipeline is planned to be commissioned in 2018.

In addition, the event assessed the impact on the environment. A number of measures are planned to reduce the impact and effectiveness of the project on the environment, purchase of land, etc.

It is reported that nearly 1,200-1,500 people will work in the construction and the project will cost $ 3 billion.
