A sensual ballad "Running Scared" was selected to represent Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. The Jury selected the ballad among 70 songs. Recall that next to the local compositions there were foreign songs submitted to Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company which announced song competition within a month beginning from January 10 for representing Azerbaijan in Düsseldorf.
"Running Scared" will be performed in the first Semifinal on May 10 by the Azerbaijani participants Eldar and Nigar, who decided to take a stage name Ell/Nikki. Eldar commented: "I think "Running Scared" really goes well with our style, our voices and our souls. We hope Eurovision’s audience will also fell in love with the song." "It is a profound, touching and beautiful song. My little daughters like it very much, by the way," said Nikki. The entry was selected by a professional jury, which includes Director General of the Public Television Ismayil Omarov, composer Faig Sudjaddinov, music expert Rauf Babayev, president of the Azerbaijani National Music Committee of the International Music Council Lala Kazimova, representatives of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism Manzar Nuraliyeva and Zahra Badalbeyli as well as singer Zulfiyya Khanbabayeva. Running Scared is written by Stefan Örn, Sandra Bjurman and Iain Farquharson. "Drip Drop" sang by Azerbaijan representative Safura also belongs to these composers.
Recall that altogether 77 contestants participated in the Azerbaijani national ESC 2011 selection, which was divided into 7 semi-finals. 5 finalists were selected among the participants. Ell/Nikki duet was selected in the National Final held on February 11. Today, Ictimai TV will televise the first b-roll of the entry "Running Scared". Presentation of the clip is intended at end of April.
