Eurovision organizers expect 'magnificent show' in Baku

Eurovision TV Director Jorgen Franck has spoken confidently about the 2012 Song Contest, following two-days of meetings in Baku.

The Eurovision Song Contest's organizers, known as the Reference Group, held meetings in Baku on 31 August and 1 September.

Jorgen Franck said they were pleased with the cooperation between the European Broadcasting Union and Azerbaijan's public broadcaster, Ictimai TV, and that this cooperation would not be limited to the Eurovision Song Contest.

"The [Eurovision] host country introduces something new every year. This song contest starts anew each time and every host broadcaster brings novelty to the project. The session held in Baku has encouraged us. I am confident that we will witness a magnificent show in Azerbaijan next year," Franck said.

The Reference Group was briefed on preparations and work done so far on the 57th Eurovision Song Contest. They were told about the work of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation which accepted a proposal from Ictimai TV and Radio Company to organize the contest.

The cooperation will be crucial to the success of Eurovision 2012, the Reference Group members said.

Reference Group Chairman Frank-Dieter Freiling said that he last visited Azerbaijan five years ago and had seen significant changes in Baku since then.

"This shows that everything will be perfect by the contest. This contest is a great opportunity to popularize the country," Frank-Dieter Freiling said.

The executive supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, Jon Ola Sand, and Event Supervisor Sietse Bakker welcomed the preparations made so far. They said that Eurovision-2012 would be a memorable show.

The semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest will be held on 22 and 24 May in Baku and the final on 26 May.

The exact venue of the contest has not yet been announced, amidst speculation that a new concert venue will be built.
