Iranian Authorities prevent burial of exiled journalist

Iranian security agents have abducted the body of journalist Reza Haghighatnejad, preventing his funeral after his death. The body of the employee of Radio Farda, the Iranian service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty media corporation, was brought to Iran for burial in coordination with the Iranian authorities. However, according to the sources of Radio Farda, the agents of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps seized the body and took it to an unknown place.

According to SIA, referring to foreign sources, journalist Reza Haghighatnejad has been working at Radio Liberty since 2019. He died of cancer at the age of 45 at the "Charite" in Berlin on October 17. His relatives claim that they have received all the necessary permits for his burial in his hometown of Shiraz. The body of the deceased was brought to Iran on October 25. According to Radio Farda, the authorities are now pressuring the relatives to agree to the funeral ceremony in another city. Interestingly, the authorities have not commented on this issue yet.

Today, the protests in Iran have been going on for more than a month after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was arrested by the vice police for wearing the "wrong" hijab. Protesters have accused the police of her murder. More than 200 people have died during the suppression of protests, including by use of firearms.
