Zakharova: The number of Western emissaries visiting Armenia on behalf of the EU, OSCE, and France increased
“We can't help but be concerned about the alarming trends that are escalating in the South Caucasus, where the West is clearly attempting to transmit the conflict schemes developed in Ukraine,” it was reflected in Maria Zakharova's statement, which was posted on the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website, SİA reports.
"We can see that brotherly Armenia is facing unprecedented foreign pressure. Steps are being taken to undermine our countries' and peoples' centuries-old relations, as well as to discredit Russia's policy in the region. Numerous foundations, NGOs, and media outlets operating under the umbrella of Washington and Brussels are attempting to create anti-Russian sentiment in society.
We are confident that foreign forces' attempts to create conflict between Moscow and Yerevan will not be successful. We are determined to strengthen our strategic alliance and multilateral cooperation with Armenia. This will allow us to overcome the current obstacles together. We are developing dialogue along military-political and military-technical lines,” said the Russian MFA official.
Zakharova noted that the unceremonious and shameless approach of the West can also be seen in relation to the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations: "Neither the regional specificity nor the problem's special sensitivity are taken into account. Washington and Brussels' true goals are not to find compromise and balanced solutions, but to promote themselves and push Russia out of the South Caucasus.
Our tripartite work has been misappropriated and distorted. The number of Western emissaries visiting Armenia under the auspices of the European Union, the OSCE, and France has increased. Rapid initiatives are being proposed that do not consider the interests of the entire region's population. This may result in a violation of the balance reached under difficult conditions on the basis of the November 9, 2020 agreement between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia."
At the same time, the Russian diplomat recalled that unfounded accusations were being spread about Moscow allegedly not fulfilling its security obligations to Armenia: "In this regard, we would like to remind you that it was our country that stopped the war in November 2020, sent peacekeepers who brought peace and stability to the region, and continues to play a decisive role in resolving armed incidents between Baku and Yerevan. Foreign forces' attempts to force the withdrawal of Russia's peacekeeping contingent aim to destabilize the South Caucasus.”
