Kazakhs activists protest Putin's visit to Astana

The police detained 4 activists protesting against the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Astana in front of the Russian consulate in Almaty.

The detained individuals were taken to an unknown location, SIA reports, citing Russian media.

However, the activists did not have the opportunity to approach the building of the Russian consulate and put forward their demands. The police caught them and pushed them into the car. The protesters were holding a placard with colors similar to the colors of the Ukrainian flag and a yellow and blue funeral wreath.

Earlier, it was reported that the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Astana is planned for October 12-14. In the meantime, protests against Putin's visit to Astana were intensifying on social media. Human rights defenders, political scientists, and ordinary citizens condemned the war started in Ukraine and demanded the cancellation of the president's visit.

Officials insist that Putin's visit is very important.

This was not the first time the Kazakhstan held protest against Russia.

Back in February, a few days after the start of the war in Ukraine, the activists of the civil movement "Wake up, Kazakhstan" gathered at the Consulate General of Russia in Almaty for a protest, condemning the actions of the Kremlin on the territory of Ukraine.

Later, in April and June, Kazakh activists tried to hold protests against Russian aggression.

The only legal rally in support of Ukraine was held in Almaty on March 6. The rally brought together thousands of participants. There, "Putin, The Hague, prison!" and "Tokayev, don't shut up!" slogans were chanted.
