Deputy minister: Azerbaijan demands investigation of Armenia's crimes from international organizations

"Azerbaijan demands that the international organizations investigate Armenia's crimes," Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov told a joint briefing held by the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the crimes committed against Azerbaijan by the Armenian armed forces and illegal Armenian armed groups since 1988, SİA informs.

According to him, Azerbaijan has appealed to several international organizations to hold Armenia accountable for the crimes committed during the First Karabakh War, the ceasefire period, and the Second Karabakh War: " In 2020, Azerbaijan appealed to the European Court of Human Rights and the International Court of Justice. In the same year, the mine problem was addressed. The crime of laying mines in the sovereign and internationally recognized territories of Azerbaijan by Armenia continues. These cases are under consideration. Procedural questions have been sent to the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides regarding the lawsuits, and answers to the questions will be submitted soon. There are groups in Armenia that make hate speeches against Azerbaijan. Not only are they not held accountable by the Armenian government, but they are awarded by the Ministry of Defense of Armenia and other institutions. Recently, in September, the facts regarding the non-compliance of obligations by Armenia were submitted to the court. The discovery of 1,400 mines in the city of Lachin and other facts were also included in the court application. This proves that Armenia continues to commit such crimes."

Mammadov said that Armenia denies the crimes committed against Azerbaijan: "Azerbaijan demands the investigation of these facts by international organizations. But we do not see a similar position from international organizations towards Armenia. It's a double standard that they do not react to crimes like Khojaly. Azerbaijan takes its international obligations seriously. Unfortunately, we do not see it from the other side. Armenia's crimes that have been going on for over 30 years should be investigated duly."
