Poland asks Germany for war reparations of 1.3 trillion euros

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has announced that his country will receive reparations from Germany for its losses in World War II. SIA reports that according to the Polish state news agency PAP, he stated: "I believe we will receive compensation from Germany, but it will not happen quickly. The important thing was to take the first step."

Recalling that the first step was to prepare a report documenting Poland's losses in World War II, Morawiecki said, "The second step was to publish the report and send a diplomatic note to the German government. This will happen soon."

Last week, Poland published a report that estimated the damage caused by Germany during the Second World War to the country at 1.3 trillion euros. The leader of the ruling conservative Law and Justice Party, Jarosław Kaczynski, said it was decided to raise the issue of World War II reparations in Berlin: "It's about forcing the German state to pay reparations for everything it did to Poland between 1939 and 1945, perhaps a long and difficult process."
