More than half of Russians regret the collapse of USSR, new survey says

More than half of Russians, almost 58 percent, regret the collapse of the Soviet Union, this was determined by the data of VTsIOM survey, SIA refers to Russian media.

According to a survey published by the Public Opinion Foundation on December 22, 2021, more than 60 percent of Russians regretted the collapse of the USSR. Citizens between the ages of 46 and 60 (82 percent) regretted the collapse of the USSR the most, while among those over 60, the rate was 76 percent.

More than a quarter of respondents (28 percent) among 18-30-year-olds also regretted the collapse of the Soviet state.

The results of the VTsIOM survey in 2022 shows that citizens over the age of 60 (81 percent) regret the collapse of the state the most; Among young people aged 18-24, almost one in five (19 percent) expressed this opinion as well.

Interestingly, those who were not alive at that period do not regret the collapse of the Soviet Union.

A total 20 percent of citizens have no regrets, the survey states. Among the respondents under 24 years of age, every third takes this position as well.

According to VTsIOM, 13 percent of respondents showed indifference to this 'issue'.

Among the 18-24-year-olds, there were three times more indifferent people.

To the sociologists' question about the desire of the respondents to restore the USSR in current time, one out of every two people who were asked gave a positive answer. Among citizens over 60 years of age, this was a high rate of - 58 percent.

The All-Russian initiative survey dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the USSR was conducted on December 16, 2022 among 1,600 respondents over the age of 18.
