18 children die in Uzbekistan due to SARS syrup

The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan reported the death of 18 children on Tuesday, SIA cites foreign media.

According to the ministry, the cause of death of the children could be the SARS syrup “Doc-1 Max” from the Indian company Marion Biotech.

In the course of a laboratory study, it was found that the preparations contain ethylene glycol, a toxic substance commonly used in “anti-freeze” products.

“It was established that the deceased children, before admission to hospital treatment, took this drug at home for two to seven days three to four times a day, 2.5-5 milliliters, which exceeds the standard dose of the drug for children”– says the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.

After receiving the results of the audit, seven employees were fired from the department.

The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan noted that the pills and syrups of this drug have also been withdrawn from sale in all pharmacies of the republic.

Earlier, in Gambia and Indonesia, more than 200 children under the age of 5 were reported to have died after taking this drug.
