The US welcomes the Azerbaijani president’s pardon order, Report informs referring to the website of the US Embassy in Azerbaijan.
Those pardoned included journalists, civil society representatives, members of the political opposition, and members of religious groups.
On May 27, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an order “On the pardon of several convicted persons.” As many as 167 people sentenced to imprisonment were released from the unserved part of the punishment, one person was released from life imprisonment. The unserved part of the punishment of 36 people was reduced by half.
