A moderate magnetic storm was recorded this morning in mid-latitude regions, reaching a magnitude of 6 on a 10-point scale, SİA informs, citing the Department of Astrophysics at the Faculty of Physics, Baku State University.
The storm's intensity began to subside after 9:00 a.m., dropping to 5 points, with further weakening to 4 points expected after 12:00 p.m. Experts note that storms below 5 points are generally mild and have minimal impact on Earth.
In high-latitude regions, the storm is expected to maintain a strength of 6–7 points until midday, after which it will gradually diminish to 3–4 points by the end of the day. A renewed increase in intensity, reaching 5–6 points, is forecast between 3:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on June 3.
The geomagnetic disturbances were detected using solar flare imagery from the STEREO and LASCO coronagraphs. The event was triggered by a coronal mass ejection that occurred on May 31 and passed in close proximity to Earth.
