WHO allocates $3M to support Turkiye, Syria

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released $3 million from the Contingency Fund for Emergencies for the response in Turkiye and Syria, including for three chartered flights with medical supplies, a source in the organization told SİA.

“One flight arrived to Istanbul, carrying medical and surgical trauma supplies from our logistics hub in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. Another flight to Damascus is almost ready for departure, and a third flight is being planned,” the WHO noted.

In addition, 77 national and 13 international emergency medical teams are deploying to both countries. Emergency medical teams are made up of health professionals from around the world who are trained to provide life-saving care in emergency situations.

“Continued aftershocks, severe winter conditions, damage to roads, power supplies, communications and other infrastructure hamper access and search and rescue efforts. And we remain concerned about areas where we do not yet have information. Damage mapping is ongoing, to understand where efforts need to be focused,” the source added.
